Any ideas, I’m on recess duty in Southern Illinois and a large jet with 4 small planes accompanying it flew over around 2:33 pm. I just now saw a jet with radar equipment on top fly over, heading same direction, but to the north of other flight. To high to see with naked eye any call numbers. Small planes were fighter jets, based on shape and sound, but they looked very small compared to the jet.

No, sorry. In the meantime:
(Greekish): Too high to see ...
I like that ‘title’, next time I’ll have to think a bit more
Most likely a tanker and a 4-ship of fighters refueling. The other one is probably AWACS. If they were generally pointing towards Vegas, then they are probably going to a Red Flag.
Thanks
Probably just normal mil air traffic. Ft. Campbell uses all of Western Tennesee, Kentucky, and Southern Illinois as a giant training ground.
Sorry, first ever post, was not quite sure how the posting worked. Thanks for the heads up.
Routine training ops. One way to tell is how many Tex2s, BE20s and T38 Talons are in the air. Part of the E3 AWACS mission is the eye-in-the-sky air controller. Part of the training school mission is coordinating with the AWACS and flying various sorties in large groups. This trains the students as well as the AWACS staff.
