De-escalation = let's bomb Yemen, because they are only a little country and a pRoXy for IRaN. Finally, we can bomb some-one, they said. Because. Houthis are preventing FrEe TrAde-zims in the ReD SeA. (Hey, Houthis are not stopping Russian and Chinese ships, just Israeli ones, something, something, stop bombing Palestinian children already).
To back-track: Yemen has been bombed to smithereens for nearly a decade now, and of course the local population has started using 'Iranian-style' weapons, in defense (Iranian sympathizers are literally just across the strait of Hormuz, and those people have been under US sanctions since 1979. But really we are talking about a transfer of knowledge and technology here, not a physical transport of weapons, although no doubt some single items WERE transported across the strait, mostly what was transferred was the know-how). The fact that 'Houthis' (translate as civilian Yemenis IRL) have now been bombed by UK, US and a handful of other nations (Yay, at de-escumalationum), means Yemeni backbone, and steel gonads, will get that much harder at the injustice of it all, and this is why it is an escalation.
Furthermore, the whole IRaN crisis started with all that how-dare-they nonsense back then (early eighties). The sanctions caused Iranians to start making cheap, locally resourced, but viciously effective, drones to circumvent the sanctions (that everyone laughed at during the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian spat, when Russians tried them out in swarms, and Russians themselves are now adapting the drones for their needs, so they are not really Iranian anymore, and that is my point).
B...b...but muh billion dollar-a-pop PaTriOts are runnong out of missiles. (that's because Saudi used them all, trying to shoot down the 'Houthi' drones over their oil-fields all this time. Then, to make the super-duper luxury-missile shortage worse, Ukraine started shooting full loads of the things in single attacks, only to have the drones suss out where the battery was located. Hello Mr. Kinzhal. Cry me a river)
Once an idea expands the mind, the space within can no longer return to its former size. All that boastful talk about impenetrable PaTrioT air-defense was demolished by some ninja cloth-heads with 3-d printers.
At the time of the Iraq war, I was aware that Americans did not even know the difference between Iran and Iraq, let alone know where these countries were located. Of course Iraq is a much smaller country than Iran, and USA like to pick on the litlle guys - so Iraq is a 'poor' cousin to Iran, after all the twenty years of demonizing Iran, which was the real 'target'.
But, during these confusing times of crying about 'babies being thrown from hospital incubators' there was the small issue of Kuwait, who was slant-drilling under the border, to access Iraqi oil-fields. This is otherwise known as stealing. What should have been a local spat between neighboring countries about the legality of slant-drilling into neighboring oil-fields, turned out to be a USA campaign of BOmb, Bomb, bOmB, Let's bomb Iraq. But keep in mind that the neo-cons really had wished it was IRan. Yay for de-escalationism.
That attempt to make a WMD narrative for Iran was quickly subverted into one for Iraq by the first Bush admin. Now the narrative is back on the table, because Iraq was SO successful, everybody.

Stopped reading here because this is so dumb. Americans knew exactly where Iran and Iraq were. We went through the hostage crises with Ted Koppel coming on at 1130 every night for over a year. Americans watched and this viewership led to 30 years of Nightline.
Then the Iran-Iraq war.
There were Tees all over stating Ayatollah Assahola.
Yemen is not a party to the Israel/Hamas war. even if they were, intentionally hitting civilian ships is unjustifiable. finally, any israeli owned ship, israel bound ship, or ship with ties to israel (no matter how farfetched) is in danger. plus they have mistakenly attacked Russian shipping.
they are just common pirates and should be treated as such. houthis are not "the good guys" in all this
Um, the Houthis themselves declared that they are blockading Israeli-owned and Israel-bound shipping until a ceasefire in Palestine is enacted. So, one cannot simply say that Yemen is not a party.
who made yemen the world police? they have no authority on the global scale. they have no authority in their own country, in some places (houthis only control 2/3 of yemen).
i am well aware of what houthi's "declared". so if them declaring they are attacking civilian ships in solidarity with Hamas is legitimate, us declaring we are attacking them out of solidarity with israel/global shipping is equally legitimate.

Yes, but you see, I was there. Most people did not pay attention. There was a narrative shift from Iran to Iraq.

true, but who made USA the policeman of the world?
