The answer is: poor grammar. It's "a woman" in singular and "women" in plural but 30% of the adult population can't seem to tell the difference.
Noticed that after I made the post, thanks for your feedback. Also, there's always a Grammer Nazi in the shadows waiting to call out an error, gotta love it!
