Can any pedes help with a rabbit hole?
🧐 Research Wanted 🤔
I’ve kinda fallen down a bit of a potential rabbit hole and I’m trying to find information about a writer called RA Salvatore. Specifically I’m trying to find out about his family - parents names etc. his bios on line make no mention of his family other than the names of his wife and 1 sibling. He has pretty much no info available which has piqued my curiosity as he’s a successful writer… just wondering if anyone can recommend any potential sources for digging?
I've read appx 40 Salvatore books, even met him once at a book signing. Hit me up fren!
Bob keeps a private life, but not clandestine in obfuscation. He's done interviews, they can easily be found on YouTube. Yeah, he's married, has kids (all of which are adults now themselves I think) been writing Forgotten Realms fantasy novels since the 80s.
His writing style is a bit over descriptive at times regarding motion but his books are very good. Quite conservative material when looking at the genre and D&D as a whole. I've never come across anything to be taboo about Salvatore or his writing. In recent years the crazy woke mob has tried to co-opt some of his characters but it has failed. E.g. trying to make characters LGBTQZ+ or whatever.
Thanks fren, I’m just interested because I saw a post on X that kind of activated my almonds earlier. https://x.com/maajidnawaz/status/1754459864707801221?s=46&t=Nwg1vy4jg3_JlX1SQMYB9A
This made me wonder about him choosing that particular image. I’m a FR fan and I’m struck by the similarities between Menzoberranzan and the matriarchy and twisted corrupt society and other contemporary “sects” shall we say? So I started to noodle round about Bob Salvatore and found the games company he was involved in and reportedly took a $2mil loss on and the CEO who was involved in that also has ties to Amazon and Comcast and set up undertakings in Pakistan, Kenya Istanbul and Fortaleza? It might not be anything but the hole where a bio would usually be made me go hmmmm.
The abrupt bankruptcy of 38 Studios also made me curious. Am also looking at IDGA where the CEO of 38 studios is involved and who the other board members are?
Interdasting Twitter post indeed!
Yeah, there's a lot of Salvatore created fiction that parallels real life and subsequently, certain aspects of life such as the GAW. However, I don't feel it's more comparable than say Tolkien's masterworks, which are 100% rooted in Christian creation mythos and very much illustrate a narrative of the ultimate morality battles of mankind.
As for his failed company, hmm... yeah maybe something there or maybe not. Failed gaming companies & projects are a common thing for sure. Heck, if you want to see the evil in that spectrum look no further than Hasbro/WotC who hold all of the keys to D&D and the Forgotten Realms.
Hasbro has been the leader of the social engineering of children using media & toys since the 80s. They used to push neoconservatism openly, now they push pedophilia and wokeism.
WotC is just as bad. They are one of the wokeist companies globally that targets adolescents and young adults.
As for 38 Studios, I'm in the dark here. I know I've read transcript or even heard RAS speak about the company and project endeavors, but my memory is recollecting pre-dissolution conjecture. RAS being asked about spoilers and such tidbits many years old now.
Again, AFAIK, it's just one of many examples of a failed upstart game company. They probably promised RAS the moon for his character rights and the company either mismanaged the project and/or had illusions of grandeur and simply could not deliver or compete.
Maybe you could see who he dedicates his books to?
If you have any pictures try reverse image searching and then dredge for meta data to get pictures of him with people he seems comfortable/affectionate with.
Then you can use one of those facial identification websites on the other people in the photos to get more info on them.
Rinse and repeat.
Beyond that, try genealogy databases, data dredging websites that let you use key words to dredge the internet, etc. etc.
I'd be careful though and would use a good adblocker and pop up blocker since a lot of the sites that you'll find doing this kind of thing are kind of skeevy and filled with pop up ads or data mining ads.
