Any of us who came of age in the '80s remember when rap was fun. Run DMC, Fat Boys, MC Hammer, all that stuff was fun. Then in the early '90s, it was weaponized. Going WAY back, Mark Dice did a video of one whistleblower's account on how the rap/hip hop industry was essentially taken over in order to glamorize thug life and expand the private prison system to profit. Then there was the '94 Crime Bill that Biden, Clinton, and so many others were involved in that pretty much sealed the deal.
I don’t like wrap but loved the first rap. My husband and I both have the Sugar Hill Gang album and I like that. Nasty rap is bringing down everyone that listens and that includes white people.
I'm just going to assume he means mainstream rap. Cause I can think of a LOT of positive hip-hop songs that don't promote BS
