I'm 99% confident that my high school and junior high had tunnels, and that they even connected. One of the entrances was obvious, right down a hallway with a metal cover that anyone could lift. There was also a bomb shelter at the junior high that may have had access to the same tunnels. We went into the bomb shelter once. It was really dark and they were storing stuff down there.
Large buildings like this often have service tunnels. Built in 1965 the building probably had radiators in the classroom. Have to move that steam around somehow. Sometimes they actually are used for nefarious purpose but usually not. Go to a lot of the colleges and Universities in the Northern tier and there are steam tunnels under the entire campus. Still fun to watch. Dudes girlfriend was shitting herself the whole time but bravely kept going.
Most schools do. They were bomb shelters. My little rural school had one.

Interesting but not scandalous.
