I cannot recall the time required but I did read a study that showed fair white people needed like 20 minutes because of fast absorption and the darker a person is the longer they needed, thinking approx 40 minutes. But this also changed whether it was summer or winter

That is what I read as well. I am sure there are other ways to get Vit D in sufficient manner like certain fish.
