basically if you go Enlisted to warrant to officer, you can have a 40 year career and not hit the cut offs.
slight more explanation: OCS I think 24 cut off. enlisted to officer, the cut off is around 32. but if you go from enlisted to warrant then go officer there is no age. 26 years in is the normal boot.. but going to officer resets the years cut off cycle of forced out.
yes, possible. why stay in for 40 years if no benefit after 30 in still confuses me.
Yes indeed. I agree 100% that it can and has happened. I knew a Warrant officer that retired AT age 62 after 40 yrs service. But usually officers at O4??? Yeah, I agree it is possible. Just weird to be that old as an O4.
was this guy a college grad that enlisted originally then went on to acquire a commission? because if he snuck in under the wire at 29yrs old, then he has 31 years in the service. at 31 years in, why is he allowed to remain if he was only a lt cmdr? (not asking you farpoint, just adding to your comment here)
Yes. Your observations are all valid. Unless you are a doctor, the age limit to Commission is 35. Even still … if you dont progress in your career, 99.9% of the time you get bounced.
The Navy confirmed this reportedly. I wonder what his MOS is. It may explain his age if there is a shortage. Always comes back to needs of the service.
This seems mega-suspect. A 61yr old in the Navy? Hmmmmmm … This is seriously odd.
it can happen...
