What he's saying is the reason why Democracies don't work is the very thing that makes us a Republic; the representatives we vote in.
A Democracy is a system of government where the people rule. As opposed to monarchs or dictators or oligarchs, etc... (This is the most basic definition of a democracy.)*
A Republic is a system of government where the people vote in representatives to rule for them (Congress, Presidents, Mayors, etc...). So it is a specific type of democracy. (This is the most basic definition of a republic.)*
The OP is stating that Congress, those people we voted in to rule for us (as a Republic), is the problem.
My question is, if one is advocating against democracy (a government ruled by the people) and against the representatives we vote in (which is what specifically makes us a republic), exactly what type of government are they imagining we should have?
I'm honestly asking. What system of government are people imagining we should have?
Democracies and Republics and all the different forms of governments that exist are extremely involved and complicated subjects that can't wholly be condensed into a one sentence definition. So I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible in order to get the basic idea across first.
I believe in a Constitutional Republic form of government.
When most ppl say that we are a Democracy they tend to think we are ruled according to the will of the majority and that is not true, thank God!
I say “thank God” because I don’t want to be ruled over by the hive mind of big city politics.
On a macro level I support the ideas of democracy, but the form of democracy that I chose is a Constitutional Republic.
The ppl we vote in are only part of the problem and it’s possible that a good portion of the voted in “problem people” would have not become such a problem had outside forces not infiltrated many aspects of our government. Once the true power players that control governments from the outside are exposed (this group has been there for a long time) then the infiltration will be much better dealt with and will result in less decent men being corrupted once they enter government. “Dark to Light”
I can see a time where the world finally can just about agree upon who caused most of the world’s serious problems. When that happens politicians will be looked at as pawns with many having been controlled and corrupted.
So, yeah,, we need a house cleaning (and it’s happening) but in my mind politicians are just the tools of the real masterminds who are not elected.
*Sometimes I forget that there are ppl (not saying you, I think you’re just clarifying) that don’t understand what I’m trying to convey when I speak on this.
I’m doing 3 things at once so if this hard to understand, my bad! 😁

That really isn't something that I've seen much of outside this community. It's really only here that I see people who believe democracy just means mob rule.
I can't describe how shocked I was when I first came here and saw people not only saying the US wasn't a Democracy, but who were basically shitting on the concept of democracy itself.
Since then, I've been digging into the reasons behind this attitude, and from what I can tell, it mostly came about after the 2016 election when HRC (allegedly) won the popular vote while Trump had an electoral college win. When people started grumbling about getting rid of the electoral college, that's when this idea of the US not being a Democracy seems to have become common in pro-Trump circles.
It's only when there's the appearance that Democrats are the majority does majority rule get criticized so much. Like you just mentioned:
I say “thank God” because I don’t want to be ruled over by the hive mind of big city politics.
When there's the idea that liberals in big cities outnumber conservatives in the rest of the country, then we see the opinion that majority rule is bad.
But when we see people insisting that conservatives actually outnumber liberals in the US, (something I see mentioned frequently here) then majority rule is good.
And it's not just limited to politics. Some of the most passionate arguments I've seen in favor of majority rule comes from this very board.
When the conversation turns to religion, majority rule is favored because Christianity is the majority religion here. When the conversation turns to racial or cultural issues, again, majority rule is favored because white people and traditions and culture based on Western European influences is the majority here.
I don't really have an issue with any of that, other than the general dislike of hypocrisy.
The biggest issue I have is that so many people have no clue what they're talking about in regards to what Democracies and Republics are, and they're just loud and proud in their ignorance. It doesn't reflect well on their general education nor their research skills. And perhaps the worst of all, they run amok in the world telling people how shitty democracy is and making us all look ignorant by association.
It's not semantics when they have no clue what either actually mean. It's just plain ignorance. Prideful, willful ignorance. Especially considering how often they just shit talk about how horrible democracy is. I don't think that's having their ideas or their hearts in the right place.

It’s bc “”many” confuse democracy and direct democracy which would be the purest form of a democracy
*I know the differences and I also know my audiences.
To me if ppl here and other place are confusing the terms, yet, they’re ideas and hearts are in the right place I toss it up to semantics.
