I personally like the word "prostitute". "Sex worker" sounds like someone is digging a ditch, or something. Prostitute is easy, neat and instantly understandable.

Good old days here in Maricopa County when Sheriff Joe (Arpaio) was in office, chain gangs in black and white striped clothes were seen daily cleaning the trash and other jobs, both men and women chain gangs. I sure do miss Sheriff Joe. Our county was safe and clean while he was in office.
