Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Well and dandy, except, how would you employ the coins if the grid is down? You do need smaller denominations. We've got some silver rounds, but we also have old money, the sort that was made of silver (e.g. quarters before 1965). Wifey has also collected some barter goods, things that are not perishable but very useful if you weren't prepared, so that we could trade for what we don't have. We got these ideas from reading what survivors of Eastern European besieged cities went through during their wars, where they were unprepared and trapped, and what they most needed, what was killed over. Hint: anti-diarrheals and antibiotics were more important than anyone guessed.
What are the things you stock that aren't perishable but barterable? Besides the antis you mentioned.
I do have a strong supply of anti-diarrheals, antibiotics, various first aid supplies and toiletries stocked, as well as quite a bit of food and ammo, but I am not confident I have enough silver/gold/copper on hand just yet. Still working on it. I'm not sure I know how much to have set aside. Some say a month, some say three months. I am all set as far as food/water, but have not clue if we will be okay monetarily. For now, I will just keep what I can with what we have and leave the rest in God's hands.
That's it. How long? If you figure it out, let me know.
Will do👍
