Looks like everyone missed this:
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This footage was clearly marked on screen and in the commentary as a SIMULATION, so that viewers could see a visual representation of what was occurring in space.
At the beginning of the program, you can see that the simulation is behind Walter Cronkite’s desk.

That is the "defensive" part.
As if the respondent was more concerned with the perceived implication that the spacewalk was falsified, than the actual content of the post.
That was........ AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!! I didn't know NASA sent up three spacecraft at the same time, one to do a spacewalk and two to film it. America is the best country in the world and always the most advanced. Why should we fake anything? ..........oh, wait........Dang it, I was believing the lies for a split second. grrrrrrrr...
And all with less technology than a cell phone from 10 years ago..
Early fly by wire technology.
My big question was....when Armstrong jumps off the ladder for that "first step", who is holding the camera, which is off to the side?
Im more curious how the film even worked at all. Given supposed temps in space, Id expect that the film would freeze and crack. Also wondering how they broadcast the event back to earth.
So many questions. And they tell us they CAN'T do it again.....because they lost the technology. What!?!?
Trust. The. Science.
that is explained by people saying it was the other guy getting off and Armstrong took the picture.
still confused by the foot print and the boots they were wearing
Ahhh. Must have been the film crew they brought along with them.
Marvin the Martian?
Duck Dodgers?
