I see it differently. The protestant movement lead by Martin Luther, was a protest against the Roman Catholic church. The reformation was foremost theological, but the growing corruption in the Vatican and cultural differences were also main reasons.
The protestant priests lead normal lives with spouse and children. This is probably over simplification, but the lives of catholic priests over centuries, bunched up in their churches, with only access to altar boys, has got to corrupt their minds.
The celibacy thing was Introduced because of the corruption in families with vast riches from the church coffers taken by pretests, bishops etc and passed down to their sons. All because the rich prelates at the top did not want to give up their own wealth... I'm Catholic but I fervently disagree with the celibacy solution
I am also Catholic, have been to many protestant churches and agree that having families as pastors is a good thing. I struggle going to church because while I believe in Jesus and the Bible, I don't have much faith in churches overall.
Us as well, which is going to become a thing as we've not kept up with registration and the young uns may have trouble later without Ze Paperwork... Looking at Old Catholic, who apparently perform sacraments that are accepted by Roman Catholic, but allow married priests, and Greek Orthodox, who are very much dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
We've had issues as well, been continuing to go to virtual masses but only Catholic, Greek Orthodox. Our 'membership' lapsed yet we don't want our kids to have paperwork issues when they're ready for confirmation, marriage... Looking around now for options, painfully aware that they want you to be tracked at one location (through weekly donations in person of course) for a couple of years for them to do anything with you, while freaking Madonna bought herself a cathedral wedding and Biden and pelosi still haven't been excommunicated... Ugh.
I don't like taking a phrase by itself out of the greater context, but Peter also writes, how can you manage the church family if you cannot manage your own. And the apostles were married. Jesus never said His cousin's hermetic lifestyle was the one for everyone. Many examples of why celibacy isn't mandated by God. Now Christianity of any sort isn't a man made religion, just a human administration, and if course Jesus knew man is imperfect. Yet He still started His church with Peter and we must follow His intention even if it means cleanup and constant guard, which we dropped long ago. It's on us.
The phrase isn't out of the greater context. It says what it means and means what it says. Peter means pebble, Jesus Christ is the Rock the church was and is built upon. There is no other name under heaven and earth whereby a man must be saved. God's Son period is the way the truth and the life. In fact Peter petered out if you read the book of Acts it was Paul who received then7 church epistles which are the revelation of rhe mystery which was kept secret until revealed to him. God tells us 7 times in the epistles not to be ignorant. One of those things we are not to be ignorant of is the Mystery of the one body, Christ the Head, amd Christ in us the hope of glory. Peter had nothing to do with any of that.

The bible clearly states " forbid not to marry". 1tim 4:3
As most man made religions do they ignore what the Word of God says in favor of doctrines and traditions of men. Read your bibles.
