Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
There needs to be a PET food bank for lower income people with Pets. Apparently, people are abandoning their pets in growing numbers with the state of the current economy.
This is a good organization. I really believe it’s legit. I might be a little biased because she’s my favorite artist. I truly think she loves animals. She has adopted several dogs over the years, even gets them from the roadside. At her concerts she has a food collection.
Founded by country music icon Miranda Lambert and her mom, Bev Lambert, in 2009, MuttNation is a donation-supported 501c(3) nonprofit organization that has raised over $9 million since inception with a mission to promote the adoption of shelter pets, advance spay & neuter; and educate the public about the benefits of these actions. MuttNation also works with transport partners to assist and relocate animals during times of natural disaster. MuttNation Fueled by Miranda Lambert, a pet line of toys and supplies that benefits the Foundation, is available exclusively at Tractor Supply Company stores throughout the US.

There is a shelter in my area that operates solely on donations and volunteers that does this. Local business owners will do fundraisers and proceeds donations and such for them too. It really is a great place and the owner is very active in the community and every penny in and out is open to the public to see. There needs to be more animal shelters ran in this way.
That’s wonderful.
Thanks for sharing your positive Neighborhood news.
Yes they are and it’s very sad. The shelters and pet adoption agencies are full. I saw a post last week about a ten year old cat needing a home because the owners divorced. Said nothing about couldn’t afford the cat. My personal opinion if you doesn’t have enough compassion to keep your cat I can understand why your marriage failed. If I was able I would have adopted that cat. The dog is terrified of cats, tried it with a mama cat that was dumped out & didn’t work.
Could be vet expenses in addition to food costs. Most people give every vaccine they recommend. My daughter has stopped taking her dog to the vet unless it’s an emergency. She no longer wants to do vaccines.
That’s putting it mildly. He would not walk in the room they were in. Wouldn’t play with toys. If the little six week old kitten was in my lap he would shake very badly but had the nerve to try to bite it. My other dachshund came into a house with cats. She and one cat would chase each other around the house but lay beside each other sleeping. I could tell she missed that cat when she died.
😹😹😹 as a pet sitter… Can confirm, there are some dogs that are afraid of cats. 🤷♀️
Snoopy was deathly afraid of the cat next door. One swipe from that cat could take out a big chunk of his doghouse.
Veterinarians have made having a Pet a Grand Larceny event. No doubt. Bankruptcy via love for your furry friend. There should be a cheaper option that you can sign a waiver so there is no liability for the person trying to mend your pet much less cost. I read the liability for pet food makers, should they accidentally poison your Pet, is the original cost of your Pet and not a penny more.
We cook our dog’s food. There are easy recipes online. Most pet food in America is made in china. Just like the FDA food guidelines for humans pet food is full of grains and fiber. Heard they have been putting bugs in it for years, can’t confirm. I wish we had cooked my previous pet’s food. A cat had feline thyroid disease. We didn’t take her to vet after she almost died from rabies vaccine at a few months old. We only took her when she was sick and the vet didn’t give her any vaccines. Our first dog ate Iam’s thought it was one the best. She threw up a lot at least once a month and had to feed her rice and chicken for several days. The vet said she had gut issues. Now I know it was the food. Second dachshund we gave iams and he started throwing up so we switched and eventually started cooking it. Did research and there are websites dedicated to iams killed their dogs.
When I had a dog when we lived in America, I sometimes made her steak. I wish that I had fed her homemade dog food. I remember I had bought this premium stuff for her that was said to have less crap in it, no preservatives, etc. She ate it for a while, but then began to refuse it. It really frustrated me, but then I had my folks over and I learned that there was mold growing on it. Because I am colorblind, I couldn't see that it was turning green.
This is really the best way. many of the clients that I work for have food they make themselves, or they order raw food or pre-cooked food that they keep in the freezer. Better than that dry kibble that’s full of toxins.
When I was younger and looking for ideas to make me instantly rich. I came up with an idea for a cat cook book. It was titled Diner a deux. It was full of protein recipes that were good for the human and good for the cat. So a single person felt they were cooking for more than themselves when preparing their meals. It's an idea just waiting to happen.
