Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Crochet and other simple crafts. I can’t stand beer wouldn’t be making it if I loved. Rum & Tequila are a different story, love both, don’t drink it like I did in my very early life. I can fail at math on a calculator, you got me beat on that subject. My dad can add up a long row of numbers in his head obviously I didn’t get that passed down. I grew up in the kitchen with my grandma so cooking just comes naturally. Try it you might like it. The key is don’t over cook and keep it simple.
Here’s something you can try if you like Mac N Cheese.
. Boil macaroni, while boiling cut up cheese in small cubes (about the size of a nickel). I normally use yellow cheddar and if low mix in another kind. Anything you like will do.
. Drain macaroni when done.
. Put back in pot. Add one egg & stir good through out.
. S&P as you like
. Add the cheese and stir, cover with lid, sit back on oven but not the hot eye. After about 10-15 minutes should be melted. Ready to eat.
*** For 3 servings macaroni I do about a 1.2 block regular size cheese. If I’m cooking for 2-4 I use half box. I use Barille, use something better than store brand.
If you don’t like mac n cheese pass on to someone that does. That’s my grandma’s recipe and people should know easy simple recipes. I hate following a recipe with 10 steps.
I have cooked recipes with lots of steps but mostly just throw stuff together. My daughter always makes fancy multi step meals. But she rarely repeats a recipe. She makes K&W cafeteria baked spaghetti and that’s a comfort meal for me, grew up going several times a month. (If she cooks that carnivore gets a night off🙂). Your chicken bacon mac sounds delicious. One reason I don’t like a lot of steps I’ve become more scatter brained and will get things mixed up easily. Biggest reason is I’m impatient and miss important things.
Ha Ha, I get that. Back when I ate the rainbow of food I usually just threw meals together. If I wanted Italian I used lots of garlic, basil or oregano. Mexican, cilantro, cumin and garlic. Sometimes I cooked Chinese and bought sauces from the grocery store. Always cooked stuff I grew up with: fried pork chops or chicken, hamburger steak, burgers, country style steak (called cubed for city people). Even meats that had multiple ingredients I just throw it together and do a taste check. My homemade spaghetti sauce was always different. Baking dessert is where I follow the recipe exactly if it’s new. I know most of my grandma’s dessert recipes by heart.
Thanks for the Mac n cheese recipe. I've invented a new style of making pizza. I shared the instructions here about 3 months ago. You add extra toppings to a frozen pizza and then broil it for 2 1/2 minutes. Do you knit wool socks? I love wool socks. My Step Mother knit me wool socks a few years ago and I wore them out, they were so warm and comfortable. Rum & Tequila, you must have some Pirate blood in you. Are you naturally drawn to large sailing boats?
Your welcome. I remember you posting about your pizza invention, very smart. I don’t like a lot of frozen pizza brands. When my daughter was younger & into teens we made homemade pizza a lot. Making dough is easy, but I have a kitchen aid stand mixer. Many grocery stores with big deli sell pizza dough. Cheese cost so much now it’s cheaper to buy from the local Italian place. I don’t knit, would love to learn one day. Crochet is very similar but knitted items look more like factory weaved items. I’m naturally drawn to the ocean, sun, sand & love the very old sailing from 1700s. IDK why I prefer rum & tequila, it’s the over sweetened frozen concoctions although I’ve had more than I can count. (Jimmy Buffet reference). I want to taste the liquor and brown liquor is ok. It was wild in the 80s as a teenager and I tried it all. Don’t have any desire to be drunk again, not enough money in the world for that. As far as pirates I would probably hate them if I was alive back then but it’s fun to reminisce about living on the open water and no rules.
You have a good memory. I wouldn't be able to remember what someone wrote 3 months ago. Thanks for sharing details of.your life. It's been fun. Thanks for being a Righteous Soul who contributes regularly on GA.win. Stay happy and healthy.
I do have a very good memory unless you told me something last week that’s not interesting. Like dates and times or need to do something around the house. I literally can’t remember stuff like that. My first memory, I’m 3 my mom’s pregnant tying my shoes and crying. Her and dad are fighting and I’m going to walk to my grandparents so they can fight. Great Granddad died when I was three. I don’t remember knowing he was dead but remember the day at his house. Remember playing marbles, spinning top toy and stick horse playing with him. I wish I didn’t remember half the crap I do. But I embrace it because it’s what God chose for me. Remember everyone family member and school friends bday. If I don’t talk to them now I say happy bday in my head and pray for them. My memories are like a dang movie you watch over and over. Right back at ya on the thanks. I enjoyed talking to you also. It’s nice getting to know each other here. Shows we can learn about each other and care, doesn’t matter where we live or the normal physical details that so many judge unnecessarily. Same to you, wishing health, happiness, and blessings fren.
