I am speaking of the method of execution.
No doubt. We agree about rope and firing squads, I’m just elaborating on the mindset.
Indeed if treason weren't so insidious as if to be seeded even from an American prison I'd love to eliminate the "death penalty" all together and aim for maximum grace for all of America's adversaries regardless of their intellect and will.
The way I see the death penalty these days.. yes. Knowing treason is one place it can’t be skipped. Outside of that, it seems that prison should be in place not as a punishment for the criminal so much as for a protection for society from the criminal. In that context, the death penalty becomes “we don’t believe you are capable of becoming safe to society again” or “the cost of what you’ve done or seem plausible of doing again dramatically outweighs the cost of keeping you here, and you’ve shown no reasonable signs of atonement”.
I’m not sure if that’s the correct take or not, but that’s how it seems to me.
Take that mindset and apply it to sin and being allowed to enter heaven as a criminal who’s been given a chance to repent and work toward atonement… while also considering that God’s presence cannot mix with sin any more than oil can with water, and is inherently a consuming fire toward it. This life would be a prison, where we have grace for our sins, but the end goal is to for us to show our love and repentance to God and remove it so that we can be restored to being capable of being in God’s presence.
