Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
❓ Question of the Day ❓
What kind of coffee drinker are you? Do you go all out and do gourmet coffee, or are you just a regular black coffee kind of person? How many cups do you drink a day?
• I was never into coffee, and didn’t start drinking it until I was in my 40s. But now… I’m a full on coffee snob. We have a pretty high-end Keurig machine, and over the years have bought all manner of flavored K cups. However; after pet sitting at a house that had Nespresso… I’ve stepped up my game. My brother bought me a Nespresso machine for Christmas, and I bought all different flavors of espresso - different beans from all over the world. Now we have the Keurig and the Nespresso. Of course I need my creamer and whipped cream, and if I really want to be fancy, I’ll make iced coffee with caramel or mocha flavoring. The iced coffee really turns out fantastic using the espresso. I refuse to use other peoples coffee pots because they kind of grossed me out, so I bought a miniature Keurig to take with me pet sitting. 😂😂😂 - I only drink one cup a day, but I want it to be the best.
1-2 cups each morning. Most lazy days instant. Always with a generous amount of heavy cream. When I use beans my favorite is a local maple walnut. I will percolate or pour over. The best treat, though, is butter coffee made with the maple walnut. Heaven.
I’ve never heard of butter coffee, I’ll have to look into it. I’m intrigued.
Blend/froth unsalted butter and MCT oil with the hot coffee. All the fat is so rich and it’s supposed to help the caffeine last longer instead of spike and crash. Aka bulletproof coffee.
I’m pretty simple. I grind my own beans and prefer organic ones. My favorite ones are from my home state of SC which are Charleston Coffee Grinders. I normally use heavy whipping cream because it has no sugar or carbs and it’s about 50 calories a spoonful. I do like to splurge some and have flavored coffee and flavored creams. Depends on the day as to how many cups I may have, but never any more than 3.
Heavy whipping cream is great for coffee.
Sure is, just the right flavor.
Sure is ❤️
I hated coffee for the longest time. "Ewww! Coffee is for grown-ups!" Then when I began drinking it, the only way I could drink it was with cream and sugar. There is a local shop in Japanese malls called Kaldi Coffee that sells nice French vanilla instant coffee. No sugar, but just the vanilla flaver to take the bitterness away. I drink that most mornings and my kid likes it too. I warm up a mug of milk in the microwave and add the instant coffee to it.
Sounds delicious. I know that Japan makes some of the best instant coffee sticks available. My brother ships them to us once a year. I keep them in my kit for pet sitting, in case I run out of coffee.
Kind of drinker? Avid.
Type? Mostly gourmet, sometimes "regular", rarely flavored, almost always black, never with sugar, usually dark roast, sometimes iced, sometimes with cream, almost never decaf, lately pour over, sometimes French press, drip, percolator, occasionally cold brew, freshly ground from beans is best (but I'm lazy), Peet's preferable, but I try many others as well.
Quantity? Lots.
As a little kid (maybe 4-5?) I was watching the adults drinking and wanted to try it. My dad told his mom (my grandmother) to give it to me black, no sugar, no cream (figuring I'd think it was too bitter, I suppose). I sucked it down and asked for more.
As I say now, if I'm in the hospital during my final moments I want it in my IV drip. "Nurse!!! What the hell is this?!? Decaf??!! Hell no!!! You get the dark roast regular in that thing NOW!!!". (Chuckle)
Yep gonna get all jacked up just to die 😂
As long as you're still breathing air, might as well live vibrantly. 😏
True 🤗
😂😂😂😂 Hard core - I like it!
I fill a kettle with cold water and add 3 scoops. I boil it for 4 minutes on medium high (high will cause it to boil over). Then i trickle cold water around the rim and in the spout. This causes the grounds to sink to the bottom. It's called cowboy coffee i think. No machine or mess. I drink the room temperature left over coffee in the pot each morning before dumping the grounds in the compost, this grosses people out for some reason. When it's fresh I always drink it black with ice.
Cowboy coffee… I like it. I have heard of this method, and I like that you use your grounds for compost.
