Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
When I was young I used to love dreaming about the ideal homes. Now that I'm older, whereever my loved ones are, that's where I want to live.
Ideally, by the beach. As long as there's no hurricane or tsunami lol
Agreed about home being around your loved ones. I’m a little touched in the head and would love to ride out a hurricane. No to the tsunami! My husband and I wanted the go storm chasing in tornado alley, in our twenties. Having a kid and no money we didn’t pursue it. We aren’t crazy just love to watch storms but we know they can be dangerous! I don’t sit outside in a thunderstorm.
I love storms and thunderstorms. One of my fave movies is Twisters w/ Helen Hunt.
That’s probably what sparked our interest in storm chasing. I’d love to stay in a cabin out west where you can see storms from 50-100 miles away. I read about a place like this in the 90s in southern living.
This is interesting because I was just having a conversation with the family member about this the other day. I pet sit, and I stay in these huge million dollar homes. Yes they’re nice, and they have all the amenities… However, when I leave, I’m so so grateful to come home to my small house with my mom. I don’t need a big huge gigantic home. Even if I was to have an ideal location for a home, I still wouldn’t need it to be huge. Just happy to be with family. Living my best life with my mom now because God is good.
Huge homes are beautiful but not the answer to happiness. The first eight years of our marriage we lived in a trailer and were very happy. It’s the people that make a home not the square footage. Home could be a motor home on the road, not for me but great for those that love it.
Amen. Thanks for sharing. I totally agree. We have a small house and sometimes my husband couldn't even find me or i get scared going to the kitchen on my own after watching stupid scary videos on Youtube lol I can't imagine a big house. We'd need a PA system and probably end up just hanging out in one room most of the time.
Have you watched Cecilia Blomdahl's channel on Youtube? She lives in Svalbard and a nice cozy home. I think I'd like that.
Check it out:

Oh, I forgot about that channel! I watched one of her videos once. Very snowy and cozy! Thanks for the reminder.
Thanks I’ll check the video out later
