That way when you're in a collision and the power source gets punctured instead of burning to death in a lithium fire you get bombarded with neutrons and possibly contact the radioactive walls of the plasma vessel and you get to die an even more agonizing death! And yes, I'm mostly joking, the fusion reaction stops producing neutrons very very quickly once it is stopped (and presumably they'd have an acceleration sensor and perhaps some others to stop it in the even of a collision).
