Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
What are people supposed to use on their skin when out in the sun? Other anons were saying that sunscreen is bad for your skin with toxins and all that, but what is recommended to prevent burning?
I’m gonna be in Hawaii soon for six weeks. I kind of live there part time. When I’m there I don’t wear anything on my skin. Nothing. The islands prefer it, because they feel the sunscreen ruins the reefs and the ocean. Grew up Huntington Beach, and I never wore sunscreen. I put oil on to bake my skin. But then again… I don’t really burn so it’s not a problem for me. The first days in Hawaii my skin may be a little red, but after that I just keep getting browner, and browner. I think sunscreen is a bunch of toxins, and they push it on everybody. They even put it in women’s regular make up. I think it’s another psychological operation to poison people. However if burning your skin is an issue, you might want to take some precautions.
Recommend zinc oxide ointment
Do humans need sunscreen really? It's a scam. How do people survive out in the sun for millions of years before our time?
You wouldn't burn unless you're naked and purposely sit in the sun for an hour
An immune-challenged friend turned us on to KINeSYS which really works, without the bad chemicals. Order directly from them and skip Amazon.
Will second the advice about Asian sunscreen
But there are also some herbal salves that look interesting.
