Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I try to avoid buying stuff from Ama-CIA-zon, but since I live in Japan, my options are often limited and this was too good to pass up. I bought Orwell's 1984 for only about 600 yen and it arrived Friday afternoon. I've never read it before, so I really should start it after I finish The Fall of Hyperion. Last year I actually got to talk to the daughter of JP Hogan and I promised her I would read her father's boo Inherit the Stars, but 1984 looks to not be a long book.
The book itself is not to my liking as it is tall and the print is small. Maybe if it was a standard paperback size it would be thicker. One of the down sides of buying stuff online is that you can't really get a feel for it in your hand before buying it.
1984 is a page turner. Shouldn't take long to read.
Must be nice living in Japan. My hubby recommended 1984 yesterday, how strange. I will most likely listen to it on Amazon Audible.
I would also suggest watching the original movie. Poor quality due to being old, but its a good movie.
I haven't seen the very old movie, but I did watch the one that was released in 1984, the one with plenty of nude scenes with the beautiful woman.
I've thought about how the whole "feminism" and pronoun nonsense is forcing people to recoil from lovemaking. Not quite how it is in 1984, but the same result from a different approach. I keep seeing suggested videos on YT about how dire the dating scene is these days due to how deceived young women have become. Guys are giving up on women because they've become so corrupted and unlovable.
