US government will ban Americans from air travel effective May 2025 unless they have federalized 'Real ID' driver's license
The long-awaited deadline is finally approaching on May 7 and it will disqualify many from boarding commercial airplanes, whether domestic or international flights.
Independent journalist Patrick Webb reports that the US government plans to launch its heavily criticized federal ID program, called Real ID, for domestic air travel on May 7, 2025.

Domestic flights only if you don't have a passport is what I'm reading here. Even now if you travel domestic, Canada, mexico, you need real ID if you don't have or want to carry passport.
P.S Everyone should have a passport. It's a beautiful book, pages filled with nice pictures of historical sites and the 1st page is a picture of the guy who wrote the national anthem (Francis Scott Key) the Maryland bridge that just collapse is named after (how ironic?!) 2nd page has the We The People preambled to the constitution. 4th page has the liberty bell and the 1st capitol in Philly. It's abeautiful passport book.
Quoting from the article:
"Today, I bring to your attention another government policy that’s about to take effect that will crush domestic air travel under the guise of national security.
Webb stated in a series of posts to X Sunday that this will ban all adults from domestic flights unless they have replaced traditional state-issued IDs with Real IDs, raising significant concerns about privacy and state surveillance.
But here’s the rub: Fewer than half of Americans possess a passport, according to the U.S. Department of State.
Without a passport, adults will be left with Real ID or so-called Enhanced ID as their only options. However, as noted by Webb, the Enhanced IDs will only be valid for land or sea travel to Mexico and Canada, not for domestic flights. Not to mention, Enhanced IDs are only issued by five states — Washington, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, and Vermont."
You can also pay a little extra and get a passport card, which is good for land and sea crossings. It is the same size as a driver's license, but still has no address listed.
On that topic of paying extra. If folks don't know, TSA Pre Check is worth it for domestic travel. Used to cost about $75 and you had to have a simple interview screening.
BUT! It doesn't work at all internationally nor when reentering the US. Most ppl assume it works stateside for roundtrip international travel, but nope!
Worth noting that the passport card only works around North America and certain Caribbean ports. Not for traveling to other continents. I know someone who found that out the hard way.
I’m pretty sure calirado is non this list also.
