US government will ban Americans from air travel effective May 2025 unless they have federalized 'Real ID' driver's license
The long-awaited deadline is finally approaching on May 7 and it will disqualify many from boarding commercial airplanes, whether domestic or international flights.
Independent journalist Patrick Webb reports that the US government plans to launch its heavily criticized federal ID program, called Real ID, for domestic air travel on May 7, 2025.

You can also pay a little extra and get a passport card, which is good for land and sea crossings. It is the same size as a driver's license, but still has no address listed.
On that topic of paying extra. If folks don't know, TSA Pre Check is worth it for domestic travel. Used to cost about $75 and you had to have a simple interview screening.
BUT! It doesn't work at all internationally nor when reentering the US. Most ppl assume it works stateside for roundtrip international travel, but nope!
Worth noting that the passport card only works around North America and certain Caribbean ports. Not for traveling to other continents. I know someone who found that out the hard way.
