Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
A family member was just prescribed nitroglycerin pills for his heart (not jab-related).
Given how little I trust doctors to treat long-term health, is this really a good idea, or is it just going to keep him sick?
I already told him to get some L-Lysine and magnesium taurate/glycinate.
My brother had a heart attack last August and he’s on several different medications. I don’t tell him he could take something other than RX because he will always listen to the doctor, not worth me wasting my breath. When I saw all the bottles he came home with I told myself if I was in the same situation I would find a natural alternative and probably go to a naturopathic doctor. I know there’s some herbs you can take regularly for heart health. Hawthorn is considered a heart plant. I don’t know enough to advise about other plants. Tinctures are usually better than a pill from. Tinctures are great unless you are traveling a lot.
It's for dilating the blood vessels and has been around for decades, I believe it's useful for what it is prescribed for. It's also been used recreationally, believe it or not, called "poppers", popular with gay men in the eighties, but traditionally it's been used for preventing a heart attack. Anything that's been around for that long is probably fine when taken as prescribed, I have never known it to be used daily, just as a PRN for chest pain and tightening in the chest, it opens the vessels and allows blood to flow where it is needed.
i'd lean towards short term or for acute pain/hemodynamic instability. if his doc wants him on it long term and/or in a high dosage i would really hold his feet to the fire on exactly why and what the side effects will be. and try to see a cardiologist if he's not already.
long term i'd only do supplements and good exercise/diet, sounds like you're going in the right direction.
Only take it if chest pains develop. It can save his life and stave off a heart attack. I had a serious heart attack in 2015 and have carried it ever since. Used maybe 2 or 3 times in the year or two after my heart attack. In the meantime a good diet. I have been doing the lysine thing lately, but with high dose vitamin C. The heart loves magnesium. I don't take it every day, but if I feel an extra beat on occasion I take some. Doesn't hurt to take it every day though.
It depends why he was prescribed nitro and if it is needed daily or just in case he has chest pain. Nitro used correctly could save his life.
