Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Good stuff, thanks! I'll have to try and start doing weekend foot soaks.
I always wear a fresh pair of socks daily, but was just looking at the most recent socks I bought just over a year ago and they have no cotton. I'll get some 100% ones to wear with my new shoes.
I've never been the biggest bather, and of late more so because I'm not a fan of dousing myself in chlorinated, fluoridated, and otherwise polluted water but depending on how active I am do at least 3 times a week, or more with heavy activity.
Foot drying is something I've never done, usually just ankles up and let the dogs air dry, but I'll give that a try too.
Thanks!
Yeah... you really have to look at the labels to find 100%. If you find 90% that's okay as the remainder is usually elastic etc. It's the polyester that's problematic... imagine wearing threads of shredded 2-liter soda bottles on your feet and expect them not to breathe...(PET is polyester BTW)
If you can't shower for whatever reason, just make it a point to do your feet until you break the cycle.
I didn't mention cycling shoes ... it's best to alternate shoes so they have a chance to air/dry out. If they're repeatedly sweat in, they never dry out and bacteria never die ..they just colonize in the shoes and you can't break the cycle. If you can't alternate shoes, get shoe/boot dryers.
I've used this in the past... looks like it's hard to find now:
Crimson Antimicrobial Guard, 8 oz. - Disinfect, Deodorize, Bacteria & Shoe Odor Eliminator, Up To 90 Days Protection https://amzn.in/d/7UyAOZU
Looking around on Amazon proved fruitless, well mostly. I came across GoWith Socks and ordered some 5 pair natural color 97% cotton, 3% elastane, and 6 pair 40% linen, 40% cotton, and 20% polyamide.
And just to hit $75 for a discount I tried a pair of alpaca socks for winter.
