The irony was, the spelling flash card deck the teachers gave him to use for the spelling bee had the words on the back so the facilitators could look at the correct words as the students spelled them. The problem was, the WORD WAS MISSPELLED on the actual card! He was supposed to use that as the guide.
SO IT WASN'T EVEN HIS MISTAKE, but they forever branded him as stupid after that.
It just occured to me...do you think that was a set up to make him look like a dummy? He was kind of a pretty boy and seemed very likeable. But he never lived that down and no one took him seriously for high office after that.
The propaganda was good! I didn't pay attention or know anything else about Dan Quayle other than the potato thing, it became all he was known for.....
