I am going to have to ask if there was something on those boats that needed to be seized and the Chinese did it without triggering a military response.
Just askin..
Na, The philippine Navy is there because the Chinese Navy is not allowing the Filipino fishermen fish. They are ramming the boats and water canon them. Seize their catch etc. This is preventing the lively hood of a lot folks on the coast of Luzon’s South China Sea. They are also building Islands on the shoals off the cost with military outposts. This has been going on for years but it is ramping up. We usually keep some Navy there on Patrol but they are over in middle east now.
China has claimed the south china sea is theirs to the shoreline of several countries ignoring the established international boundaries (including international waters). This is not new, but the actions are getting bolder and bolder.
Long time ago by Marcos (late 70’s early 80’s) we have been there for about 20 years plus now (again). We are building new bases. America has a long history with them. Our first military action outside of US Soil by the US Calvary. (Spanish American War). Who can name the former President that Fought with the Calvary in the Philippines? We liberated them twice. There government is based on ours, right down to democratic corruption (kek). We will never be gone from there, so many Americans live there with US Hospitals etc….
Spanish War , Teddy Rosevelt Assistant Sec of the Navy April 1897 to May 1898 . Just in time to send ancient Battleship to Havana and it was blown up.
Then Teddy got to play Soldier on San Juan Hill to be a "War Hero" So he could be installed as President ?
( "Theodore Roosevelt " ,"U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt 1913 until 1920" " Theodore Roosevelt Jr. .. 1921 through 1924" , " Theodore Douglas Robinson (the son of Corinne Roosevelt) ... 1924 through 1929" and finally Henry Latrobe Roosevelt, a descendant of Robert Fulton's old friend "Steamboat Nicholas" Roosevelt, who served from 1933 through 1936 under FDR." Good Run for the Rosevelt family American lesser commanders of the American Navy. Who was in charge of the Navy ?)
You seem to imply the Island chain is a colony ? Even though we have recovered most of our ("Yamashita's") gold ?
It was native tribes till Spain (Magellan) claimed it in the 1500’s and colonized.
USofA turned it to the Philippine people in the 1890’s after the war. We all should know the stories of WWII.
"Philippine-American War, war between the United States and Filipino revolutionaries from 1899 to 1902, an insurrection that may be seen as a continuation of the Philippine Revolution against Spanish rule. It began after the United States assumed sovereignty of the Philippines following the defeat of Spain in the Spanish-American War. Although an end to the insurrection was declared in 1902, sporadic fighting continued for several years thereafter."
Thats one way to describe it. The Philippines recognizes its independence on June 12th 1898. While the US was negotiating with the Vatican to relinquish regional controls, and and working to set up national and regional governments to be overseen by the USA (Filipino Leaders), some of the Rebel factions led by the self declared Dictator Aguinaldo of the first Philippine republic resisted and declared war on the USA while working with the Spanish trying to get them involved. Obviously the USA could not let that stand. As we had just received possession by the treaty of Paris. It was not till 1902 that things were brought into a state the the USA could start working on establishing an american style government for the Philippines, by their people.
It is believed that US intentions were good (by US standards) and our government was discussing a path to self govern at this time.
The rest is pretty clear with several acts by the US government with providing the path to their complete independence.
A lot of my information comes from Filipino sources, one who is a historian. I have been to their independence festivals and a dedicated museum on Luzon.
There is no indication that the US had imperialistic goals, but only a hand in establishing US theoretical views of their government as we assisted to develop of which the insurgent rebels dismissed.
Another faction of the resistance remains today and the guerrilla warfare against the Philippine Government goes on by the Moros in the south.

Yep , this was / is just the Southern Front in the long running Civilizational Conflict much as Kosovo has been the current Northern Front. Naturally that doesn't include the current invasion of the rest of Europe.
Close but no quarter, therefore the treaty the philippines has with the USA is not invoked.
If/when it is, we will get involved.
China is being careful not to cross that line thus far.
All because the world (especially China) sees a weak hapless US with Biden at the helm!
And probably fjb and Co. are all China’s bitches.
Mitch is.

Glad we were asked to leave the PillaPeans.

Thus now it's America's colony ?
