The other thing that tells you they are stuck with Buydin is the fact that elections are run by the 50 States, each of which all have their own different laws and deadlines regarding candidates, ballots, etc. Many of those deadlines have already passed.

My favorite is Wisconsin, which clearly spells out that the only reason a candidate can be withdrawn is due to their death. There is no other reason allowed legally.

Then there are the campaign finance laws that make it illegal to try to transfer donations from one candidate to another. The D party would have to start fundraising for their new candidate from zero. Only Kumala can use the money they have raised for Buydin... and everyone hates her. She won't be the candidate either.

So... they are fucked if they try to replace the zombie at this late date, and they are fucked if they don't. I am pretty sure that means there won't be an election. Something else is going to happen instead. This explains why certain people and organizations do not seem to be worried at all, while everyone else is in a panic.
