I don't know about Parkinson's, but hallucinations are common with dementia. It's called "sundowning," and if he was on AF1 and took a nap on board, he may have woken up and freaked out. Knowing Joe, he's already a "put a record on the phonograph and grab the scatter gun" type of man.
Urinary tract infections can cause crazy hallucinations among elderly people too. This happened to my dad. He would wake up in the middle of the night with the idea that people were out to get him. It would take him a long time to exit that dreamstate in which a dream feels like reality. He's had this twice in the past year.
