Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I understand! My sleep patterns are not good. Some nights I sleep so good others I might wake up after an hour and wide awake for hours. It’s genetic in my family for at least three generations. My mind never shuts off. I can be dead asleep, concentrating on a particular task and bam my mind goes to some other place.
Being in the sun is beneficial for several different things. That might be why I’m physically and emotionally healthier in the summer.
Diet can dramatically affect our lives. Being in ketosis can improve your health. Keto diet or carnivore has many benefits. I choose carnivore because I’m too lazy to count carbs daily. It’s also a good elimination diet to see what foods might affect you in a negative sense. I’ve eaten non carnivore foods and found out some carbs or plants I can’t tolerate. Dr Ken Berry and Dr Anthony Chaffe have great videos explaining this.
Research Adaptogens:

Good brand herb capsules. I take liquid tinctures at home and have capsules on hand for traveling.

I have Peripheral neuropathy (I’m not diabetic) St John’s Wort helps me. I prefer a tincture over taking pills. I believe there are four different types of neuropathy. It’s like little electric pulses randomly on certain places of my body. It’s either just one location that flares for days or jumps around the body. Several years ago I was having recurring nerve pain on my back in the same area. I see a pain doctor. Lidocaine injections help my multiple types of pain. My doctor told me to mark each spot with sharpie and take photo. It was about five places in my back. I got lidocaine injections in each spot. That area hasn’t flared back up. Gabapentin is a nerve pain prescription. I only take if I’m desperate. Taken too much it will make your brain foggy. Prescriptions are my last resort but I do occasionally take them. It’s possible acupuncture would help. I haven’t researched this.

I order salves and tinctures from this shop. Some of the salves help pain and inflammation. If you need other small herbal stores just ask.

I trust this site because, certified herbalist Rosemary Gladstar is one of the founders. I believe there are better quality tea companies. There tea tastes weak to me. I also prefer loose leaf tea. Regardless this has good information.

I didn’t take time to read all seven pages, this is legit site.

I trust this companies information. I haven’t ordered because you have to buy 25 pounds to get free shipping. Also people say they have slow shipping.

Essential oils are a great source for pain and other conditions. If you haven’t used essential oils do some research on safety. Cats, dogs, babies and pregnant women are sensitive to some essential oils. Also some are hot oils and has to be blended with a carrier oil like coconut, olive, etc. You can buy blends of individual with out carrier oil and mix them yourself. There’s a percentage guide for oils you need to follow. I suggest ordering a roll or blend with carrier oil first to make sure it works for you. FYI: carrier oils go rancid quickly it’s recommended to keep in the fridge.
Good place to order oils or learn the properties of each carrier oil.

This company is having a different sale each day in July. You can search oils for conditions. Also have multiple oils for pain. I tried searching the blog for information and it’s not helpful. Google “plant therapy blog nerve pain” several come up this way.

Thanks moody, quite a bit there to look through, appreciate it!
I am out in the sun pretty much all day, and am essentially keto and will be full before too long.
I haven't been diagnosed with PN, but have come to the conclusion that's what it may be from searching. I'm not diabetic but was pre-diabetic a few years ago winding down almost a decade long drinking binge. I'm sure prior to winding down I must have been in the diabetic range and this is when it started. I don't get any pain, but a numbness and discomfort when laying down after a few minutes. I also get it in my feet as well and they get cold easy. Although my feet do seem to have improved slightly over the past couple years.
Thanks again!
You’re most welcome. My feet have been freezing in the winter the last few years. It’s probably circulation issue. I have numbness in just a few places. Weirdest thing for me is feels like water was dropped on my feet or legs. I have to double check they are dry🤦🏻♀️ Don’t get a nerve test to confirm diagnosis. My pain doctor did one on my right leg and it was never the same. Congrats on sobriety. I know it’s not easy. I’m always wanting something sweet. Replaced alcohol with sweets. My dad did the same thing after he stopped drinking. But the family on side are chocolate chocolate-alcoholics. Change is very hard but rewarding. Good luck to you fren.
Yeah, I'll be curious to see how my feet are this winter, while they still feel numbish they haven't felt as cold as they have in the past few years. I can't tell when they're wet lol
Nope, no way I'm going to get any tests or anything. Hasn't gotten worse, and while I'd prefer not to have it, I'm not getting on any medications. Haven't been to a Dr since the onset of covid, and no plans to unless it's some kind of emergency.
Thanks, it was a difficult road to where I'm at now, and while also mainly being keto I also do binge once in a while on sweets/chocolate/carbs. When I start doing it frequently I know it's time to switch up my diet lol
Also getting ready to kick caffeine and see if that helps me sleep better, may not be as much my thighs as I think. Probably easily consume 1000mg of caffeine a day.
Peace and blessings fren!
