Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Look for local churches and organizations giving food. I’m in a small community and that’s a pretty big thing here. I’ve been there and understand. Back when we first got married in 1988 some weeks we only bought bread, eggs and bacon. It didn’t help when your electric bill was $500 in the winter. Lived in a trailer with electric heat. They were not insulated very well.
Honestly, I wouldn't do that unless I needed to, because that takes it away from someone who might have really needed it. I'm ok, I don't go without eating because thankfully I do not live alone. But - I'm still broke as hell right now lol
but I appreciate you offering an option had I not known about those outlets.
It’s people like you that I count it a privilege to give to. You are concerned about others more than yourself, even your kitties. You have a kind soul. Great things are coming your way. God bless you 🙏🏻
I took care of my grandfather with muscular dystrophy (and the cats that came along with that role LOL) for 11 years. It's probably unhealthy that I care so little about myself vs. caring about what needs cared for. But, Kind words like that are soup for the soul and I've been pretty down lately so, Bless you as well.
I am a firm believer that we show the heart and hands of Jesus when we put ourselves last. In turn God will take that selflessness and bring great rewarding things into our lives. I’m happy for you! Keep pushing on!
I get this. In my youth we could have used the handouts but always felt there were people less fortunate. Thankfully back then my grandma cooked every day and I lived beside her.
I can't remember who said it, but there's a song I listen to and he says "Growing up, I never knew we was poor" and that hit hard for me.
My parents are some ol' bikers. There was years, I found out when I grew up, that they were struggling and stressing heavy most birthdays, christmas, etc because they had no idea how theyd pull it off. But, they always found a way.
