I don't even know that it's stupidity. Or at least to me, stupidity would imply an unchanging level of intelligence that is lower than average. Whatever this is, it's willful, willfully turning off their brains. They are ideologically possessed. They go out of their way to protect themselves from reality, highly emotional.
