Because Catholics deify Mary as a goddess with supernatural powers. This was done to appeal to pagans long ago.
Aren’t you an asshole. Catholics don’t deify Mary. They honor her as the mother of the Savior of the world. Do you honor your mother by the life you live?
I'm not an asshole. Catholicism has elevated Mary and the Saints to the status of demigods. My best friend growing up was Catholic. If he wanted to pass a test, he'd have to pray to Saint So-and-So. If he wanted something else, that would be another Saint. So it's become a bureaucracy in Heaven, instead of simply praying to God. So they can stop with this "Hail Mary, Mother of God" nonsense.
Intercession is like asking a fren or frog to pray for you. The chants can be annoying and too much I agree but intercession can have powerful effects.
