Brainwashing. Most probably are.
Most also probably think that they aren't the majority, so keep quiet because they don't want to look out of date and too old-fashioned or get ostracized because of those old-fashioned opinions. And since they think they are in the minority they also assume that speaking up would not change anything besides hurting them.
