I’ve heard a similar idea at least in regards to the absence of solid Historical Records for both the Dark Ages being indicative of someone wanting to hide something. Even a fair bit of the Classical Era too. We’ve got essentially a handful of sources and works that we base large parts of our knowledge of the classical era on. When we know full well Civilizations such as Greece and Rome were prodigious writers, record keepers, and Early Academics.
I mean Hell. Ancient Egyptian Mummies were having evidence of Cocaine and Nicotine use, or s substances extremely close to it, showing up in hair samples. Where the fuck did 3,000 year old dead guys get Colombian Nose Candy?
In fact I’ve heard from a couple eccentric type ‘experts’. Who suggested that much of what we regard as Myth, Legend, and Ancient Fabrication. The Travels of Cato the Navigator. King Arthur and his Knights. Beowulf. Merlin. Dragons and other kinds of Mythical and High Fantasy things and creatures were in fact real. If maybe a bit exaggerated in their current modern form. And that perhaps the world was a bit more fantastical. Then we’ve been led to believe.
The guy I was talking to postulated that humans eventually lost the ability to perhaps ‘perceive’ as it were. The world’s fantastical elements. He couldn’t say the reason as to the why though.
