The PCR is not meant to test for infectious disease. It only amplifies what's present. A common cold will result in a false (+) Test. Kary Mullis, the inventor of the PCR test and Nobel Peace Prize winner said so. Also you are not supposed to cycle (amplify) the test more than 20 times, they were cycling the tests 40-45 times.
