Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
They get away with it because the government and food companies don’t care what’s in the food. Just like pharma the food industry is in the government. Watch some carnivore expert videos on the processed food in America. I’m not trying to recruit anyone to carnivore. It’s mind blowing how much they have lied about the food. Honestly I guess a few bugs isn’t as dangerous as the toxic man made ingredients in our food. Top selling condiments, snacks & sodas that are sold outside the country have just basic ingredients compared to the toxins in USA food. Especially food dyes, for example the name brand marshmallow has blue dye, it’s white, why put blue dye in it?! Sorry if you already know about this, most people here are aware. I like to mention it because there’s always someone not aware.
Speaking of insects in grain. There’s several viral videos showing a corn or grain field being harvested. It’s a throw off to vegans. They claim they don’t eat meat because they can’t harm an animal. Small animals like birds, mice, rabbits etc are killed when these crops are harvested.
Sure if you need to eat bugs for survival situations I could do that. It’s just not normal!
I had a friend visit from Canada and she was amazed that the cheddar cheese sold in Vermont was not orange, she asked what kind of cows were milked that made white cheese! She is not a dumbie either, but through her childhood the cheese she grew up with was that orange kraft food color. And yes, the enormous combines used for harvesting wheat and corn and soy of course has critters in it, I eat mostly corn and rice products due to gluten intolerance in my gut, many people believe that the gluten intolerance comes from the glycophosphates they spray the crops with, and dry beans, if not bought organically are full of it, that is how they harvest them, spray entire fields of beans with the stuff, it shrivels and dries almost over night, and makes the harvesting easier. I know the vegans are perfectly fine with eating over processed carbs and artificial soy based "meat", hot dogs, rubbery artificial cheeses. I buy my meat locally, I too find the factory farmed animals abhorrent, it is so inhumane they way those creatures are raised, but there are alternatives, buy local, for instance, where you see the animals in the field eating grass and walking in the sun. I use ButcherBox and the Fulton Fish Market for my animal protein, and local lamb and pork, and of course I always have my chickens for eggs. I eat eggs every day, my cholesterol is great. And butter, Lord don't I love my butter. Healthy oils like butter and olive oil and cold pressed peanut oils are very important, and they are not stressed enough on how important they are. If a person cannot afford organic, at least they should pay attention to what kind of fats they are putting into their bodies.
I agree with some things you mentioned and some I don’t agree. I’ll never agree with anyone about what foods are best to be healthy. Eat what works for you. I can provide links with expert doctors or scientists as to why I believe some foods are bad & good. I wish I had known in my twenties what I know now. Many doctors are speaking out about the certain foods cause heart disease, diabetes and cancer. The food companies make us sick and pharma treat symptoms, not cures. The government is backing both including cdc & fda. I’ve been eating carnivore for 9 months. I still eat things I shouldn’t and can really tell how bad it affects me when I eat certain foods. If I use a non animal oil it’s 1st choice avocado oil, 2nd choice olive oil. It’s just my preference or what I’m cooking. It sounds like you are pretty educated in the state of the food quality in USA. It’s hard to find real olive oil. My daughter has a thrive account, I order olive and avocado from them. When I used olive oil regularly I preferred it from Greek or Israel. Seemed to be a different flavor. Honestly I don’t trust most foods labeled non gmo and organic. The industry is about making money not the consumer. Also the organic label can be 5 - 100% organic. Companies pay for the USA organic label. This is from research many years ago. I don’t research now because I rarely eat produce or starchy foods. Another thing the term organic in how food is grown isn’t cut & dry. It can mean it’s not sprayed with certain chemicals but I don’t understand how it’s 100% organic because most soil today has toxins from decades of toxic chemicals. Living in a farm rural area I’m sure the toxins are in the environment. These southern farmers aren’t into organic or non gmo. Anywho, RFK jr says they are going to clean up the food and environment. Praying that happens. As a whole modern living is finally catching up with us and we are seeing firsthand the damages to our earthly home.
If you are interested research cholesterol. I can find the documents or videos to support this if you want to see it. We need high cholesterol for the best brain function. That comes from eating animal fats. There’s some good info explaining Alzheimer’s and diabetes wasn’t as rampant as it is now. Alzheimer’s and dementia is from low cholesterol, brain needs fat, it’s naturally a fatty organ. In the 70s big pharma started pushing low cholesterol medication just to make money. Over the decades the use cholesterol medication has steadily increased and Alzheimer’s disease & dementia has increased as well. Diabetes has increased because our diets have considerably increased sugar and starches. I’m not sure if I have the sources on diabetes/foods. I can probably find it. Seed oils in processed foods are one cause of cancer, mainly canola, palm and soy oils. Other things that cause cancer is toxins in body products, cleaning products etc. Most sunscreens have toxins and skin cancer is from that not the sun. Just one example Laird (surfer) I don’t know last name, says he’s never used sunscreen. Many other people have spoken out about it, I don’t have those sources, videos pop up on YouTube and I didn’t save them. Watched an eye doctor say we should not wear sunglasses because our eyes need sunlight. I’ll always wear sunglasses and good quality because I’m sensitive to bright light.
Dr Anthony Chafee has some good, long, videos on why eating certain foods is bad. He’s a carnivore expert. I don’t agree with everything he says! He loves to say plants are poison, he backs it up very good. (I agree with it somewhat but believe it’s not the plant it’s either gmo and/or the toxins sprayed on plants that cause damage) I recently found a verse in Genesis about god making the herbs & plants for us. The carnivore experts say the first humans only ate meat and it’s true. Also some areas of the world have almost stunted growth. For example china (Asians) eat more rice than other regions and they are shorter than other regions. Mexicans are known for being shorter and they eat a lot of corn and flour, tortillas. Then you got a certain region or nationality in Africa that are a foot taller than the average height of people here. Also they have perfect teeth. Again, if you want more info please ask I don’t mind finding this info. If you don’t agree it’s cool. I like a civil discussion and can agree to disagree. Bottom line it’s working for me and I can’t argue with someone living there best life and eating a different diet than I do!
I recently found out about the dye in yellow cheese. I don’t know why but it shocked me. Not surprised, but like your friend always thought it was natural. Now I realize how stupid I was for not realizing milk isn’t yellow. I’m reading it’s a die from plants & also for a tree seed. Guess different companies use different types. It’s crazy but I prefer yellow cheddar to white cheddar. I’ve been eating Swiss more lately.
If you can find all the meat locally that’s great. Vermont is far ahead of the southern states with non toxic and the way farm animals are raised. I don’t have chickens, grew up with them. I buy eggs from a local person with chickens. We meet at the local gas station to buy. I get five dozen at a time because we eat a lot and give some to my daughter. We buy 1/4 cow when they start processing in spring or summer. Just restocking, that was about $1,000 @$5.25 per pound. We got mostly burger because we eat that more than other cuts. It’s easier to cook on week nights. I’d love to find local lamb. The only time I’ve had it is eating at Mediterranean restaurants. I’m probably better off getting at restaurants a few times a year because I doubt I can season like they do. I could live on Mediterranean food. Once I get to goal weight I’ll probably add few veggies and fruit a little bit but not much. I have gut and IBS issues as well. I don’t have an issue unless I eat off the plan. Ate lettuce on a burger yesterday at local restaurant and my stomach hurt several hours. So no salads for me.
I’m not preaching my way is the only way. I still eat what I shouldn’t. Just ate at local bbq restaurant and I’m almost the fried chicken isn’t in healthy oils. Growing up eating it every Sunday pretty much ruined me. I love fried chicken.
It was nice hearing your views and what works for you. I’m going to check to fish place out. I go to the coast at least once a month and have access to local seafood buying fresh or in restaurants. I eat more seafood than I ever have.
I visited Vermont several years ago and it’s absolutely beautiful. It was too short of a visit no time to explore. We used to go everywhere to see Chris Stapleton and went to upstate NY, NH & Vermont in four days, including the eight hour drive. I want to go during the fall one year. One thing that stood out the grocery stores were so different. Many herbal medicine and tea options and healthy real food like cheeses, meat and dairy. I wish it was like that here but sadly most people eat pure 💩 and that’s what they sell. No other regions have two aisles dedicated to processed junk foods, not to mention the huge soda aisle. Take care and blessings.
