I love this breakdown. You are articulating well what I've been struggling to wrap my own head around. I know that screens and media consumption are bad, but I havent been able to articulate why. My stepkids consume a lot of media (not in my house, but in their other) and their identity is shaped by youtube shorts that they see. It's strange, and their attention spans are non-existent. I wish I knew what to do about it
Op, the Internet of today is not the real Internet. Pre google, the web was basically the Wild West of information. It was conspiracy land where Alex Jones videos were top of viral trending. At one point, Google video top 20 was all conspiracy videos about the Fed, 9/11 and Alex Jones videos.
What you’re seeing is heavy redacted to warp your sense of reality. Only Gen X knows what the real uncensored well was really like. It was awesome and added value to reality. Now it’s become a 5G Weapon of war and it’s sad.
These people are presenting factual helpful information as lies and lies as historical undeniable truths. I’m so sorry, but the generations need to unite. My parents skills are needed, you are correct I notice how boomers use tech different.
Ive noticed how Gen Xers literally cannot speak to you and look in the eye. They have to be looking down at a screen. Our behavior is being merged with corporate control technology and it’s dividing this nation on a scale never seen. We shall be united. Take a hike. Go to the beach. Tune out of a little. It’s ok. This shit show will always be here. Guard your mind.
Edit: it isn’t the phones. It’s the AI manipulation algos, it’s the spying, Zuckerburg admitted they fed everyone’s posts and private messages from 2008 into an AI database proprietary to Facebook. We’re being targeted and harder digitally in ways we can’t even see. And each person is manicured on an individual based. The tech and info companies are literally swinging elections worldwide just by deleting a post or two. They are determining what’s real or what is truth. It must stop. It’s deception on a level only the devil himself could dream of.
The real question is, what will it take for the current generation to reject the false promises of the internet as it is today?
The things you describe have always been with us in one form or another (drugs for example) but the internet has massively accelerated everything.
One of the main challenges is that it offers easy solutions (that actually aren't). Until people wake up and realise that life is essentially other people it's going to be hard to get them to understand anything else.
Great post -- I have said this for years. Although convenient for life, the Internet ruined humanity. Everything fell off a cliff when it began. Going to the bank, shopping at the mall, having to wait to develope pictures, all of these seemingly meaningless things are what made us have to interact with one another and have patience. We have been ruined by instant gratification; a huge price to pay for all that convenience.
I think the Internet has saved humanity. The Great Awakening would not have been possible without the Internet, and the Devil would have ruled over humans forever.
I agree - one of the many benefits. However, it has made bad things way worse -- human trafficking, porn availability, online predators, as examples..... Hopefully, the Internet can wake enough people up to eventually walk away from its allure and get back to doing things that are productive.
True that the Internet has made some bad things worse, such as porn availability, and has introduced some new bad things such as online predators.
But i think human trafficking was always that bad, even before the coming of the Internet, and the Internet has merely caused more exposure of these cases, rather than a rise in cases.
Very well written. It appears to me the young population is being split between those whose parents limited their screen interaction and made them go out and do activities with people, and those who allowed their kids full time on screens.
If anyone here didn’t get enough real world experience, it’s never too late. Efforts will have to be made. Find books or a therapist or a screen addicts support group to help you work on it. It’s possible to recover and develop an off line normal life. You have a choice. Just thinking about it , and self awareness is step one.
I have a nephew who was given an i-phone at 8 years old. He is the most socially retarded person I have ever met. He has no people skills and is now 25.
Yep - my now 2nd grader told me in Kindergarten that some kids in her class already had phones. My 11 yo has a nickname for the kids addicted to screens: he calls them tablet kids.
