I truly hope you guys stocked up when I originally posted about this...
Our government used to teach and encourage self-reliance and an independent citizenry. Take those old flyers telling people to grow hemp, produce, livestock, etc. Chickens were considered an essential resource to manage by an American citizen. At one point, the government knew that a strong, resourceful citizen is a powerful tool.
Where did it all go wrong? Things have turned completely 180 degrees the other direction. It's just further proof that our own government has been compromised by bad actors.
I think technology has also created a sense of not needing these skills anymore. But in reality we need them more now because we have less local banks and unions to work with. Less local farms and small shops to shop with.
When things go sideways you can't rely on Amazon or Walmart to help out. Local community, small shops and neighbors are where we win as Americans.
