Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.
Election Countdown special! High quality wallpaper for your enjoyment.
Today's wallpaper is Pepe Trump to the Rescue !
You know how they say to trust your gut instinct?
My gut says that Bitcoin is bullshit. I've never trusted it.
And yet, Trump speaks highly of it, even being caught on video a couple of weeks ago paying for a meal with it.
I bring this up because I just learned that some documentary filmmaker claims he has found the real "Satoshi Nakamoto" and will reveal his identity.
Except this is the same guy that made an anti-Q documentary.
Bullshit.
Remember what Elon said and then deleted?
I'm with you. I never could embrace bitcoin. My gut just kept telling me nope.
First you have to understand WHY Bitcoin is unique. Forget what you've heard.
Bitcoin is unique because even if you control 99% of it, you still cannot prevent those who own the remaining 1% from doing whatever they want with their money.
To do that, you need to control the world's energy supply. An entirely orthogonal (and very expensive) resource. I think I have pretty good intuition, and the CIA simply would never design a currency that is fundamentally uncontrollable even for them. There are so many easier ways to accomplish what they want than the proof of work algorithm in Bitcoin.
Instead, the CIA would (and did) develop Ripple to thwart Bitcoin. They saw the danger that BTC represented, and in 2017 infected the crypto community with green nonsense, creating proof of stake, and eventually, proof of authority coins like XRP. Ripple (XRP) has always been a CBDC with a thin veneer of blockchain to hide its truly centralized nature.
These are coins where if you control enough of the currency you absolutely can stop people from transacting. That is the marker of a CIA operation.
If you understand the history of the Liberty Dollar, you can also understand why the creator(s) of Bitcoin were so careful to hide their identity. The only thing we are reasonably certain of is that Nick Szabo was at least one of the people behind the Satoshi nom-de-plume. Baysian analysis of the original Satoshi emails confirms that.
So if you want to begin your research on the real identity of the group calling themselves Satoshi Nakamoto, begin with researching his life.
TBH though, most of the world's tapped energy supplies are already defacto government monopolies via licensing schemes, so positing needing to control energy supplies as a requirement to undermine Bitcoin ain't exactly a strong point.
Yes, but you also need to restrict it from everyone else so ONLY you can use it. It's not enough just to operate the supplies. And restricting energy has a tendency to piss off the very people you are trying to control with your programmable currency. It is a very difficult and unprofitable scenario. I don't believe the CIA would ever intentionally create something like this when there are so many better/easier options.
Your instincts are correct.
There are only 2 things worth anything:
Everything else is bs.
I always get dv'd when I mention it's backed by nothing and some snotnose tries to tell me the electricity used to mine it, somehow gives it worth (it doesn't...it gets used up)
Business guru Dan Peña says that Putin is behind it to weaken the dollar. It definitely ain't some Japanese dude ... prolly 🤡s like BB said.
BTW, Nakamoto Satoshi spells this way in Japanese: 中本智
中 - Naka - Center
本 - Moto - Origin
智 - Knowledge, intelligence.
(the third letter can be written in a number of ways, and they are all synonyms for knowledge, intelligence, wisdom etc)
When you put it together, It can stand for "Central Intelligence"
I personally think CIA/NSA was behind the Bitcoin, and the original goal was to allow the Banksters to steal the 2008 bailout trillions as they collapsed the economy and reset into the new system, but the WHs used the very same Bitcoin to show us what a future freedom would look like.
Whether Bitcoin is bullshit or not depends on what you believe Bitcoin is.
If you think Bitcoin will make people filthy rich - bullshit
If you think Bitcoin will be the currency that frees us from the Banksters - bullshit
If you think Bitcoin gave humanity a taste for what freedom might look like - it absolutely did.
Will Bitcoin be the crypto of future? No way.
Can you use Bitcoin for fun ? Yes, if you dont mind wasting some money along the way,
Will decentralized digital currency be the way of the future? Absolutely.
Trump has always talked about crypto in general, never focusing on Bitcoin specifically. His message has been that crypto is an important technology in future, but if you listened to his podcast on Sep 17th there were some powerful hints:
Trump subtly hinted that while crypto is important, AI is more important than crypto
That crypto is not about making people filthy rich
Its all about debt. Crypto is the way to allow people access to low risk sovereign bonds without bankers in the middle
Properly implemented stablecoins - which are actually digital currency backed by treasury bonds - is the future
Right after they mentioned that, Don Jr immediately jumped on it and said "Not the petro dollar" - clearly hinting that we are talking about constitutional dollar, not the Fed FERNs.
As for Trump paying in Bitcoin? There is no reason to alienate the crypto community by going out of his way not to use Bitcoin. If Bitcoin is suitable for something, there is nothing wrong is using it for that, esp if it makes the Gen-Z cryptoboys really happy.
I mean, I see youngsters positively giddy that someone in the establishment is "on the little guy's side". The kind of comfort they get seeing Trump push crypto is priceless.
I dont believe Bitcoin will go anywhere, but I do have a bit of it in my wallet along with XRP, Doge and a few assorted cryptos. I do use them every once in a while, but very rarely. Do I think anything will come from them? No. Do I think they might be at least mildly useful ? Yes.
