Not what dry ice fog looks like. Coming out of a hole? No.
We MAKE Dry Ice in my Home County, and I have worked at the CO2 Plant where we Compress the CO2 into Dry Ice Blocks, and Pellets, and NOPE, that's Not Dry Ice at all....
Dry Ice is White, like Compressed Snow, but hard like Normal Ice, and in Water, you can hear it sizzle or even whine or whistle all depending on the amount of water....
It most definitely doesn't come out of a hole as smoke or steam or similar....
The key difference between dry ice fog and smoke is that CO2 is heavier than air...which is why dry ice is used in special effects and Halloween decorations. It tends to stick together somewhat, and will "pour" from a higher elevation to a lower elevation, where it hugs the ground.
Smoke, on the other hand, will rise and dissipate as it is the result of combustion and heat.
I concur with what you said.
