Consider this point: Looking at nature, which is a reflection of God's inherent character, we can see that mathematics is part and parcel of the whole design. Golden mean, symmetrical designs in plants, animals and molecules, etc.

What does this mean? It means that God himself is in some aspect a numerical being. That's why the creation reflects this. The creation is God's nature manifesting and developed according to numerical progression.

When we look at scripture, there is a little understood dimension of numerology that is waiting for people to uncover the meaning. Kind of like 'future proves past".

Why, for example, is the number 4 so critical? The numbers 3, 4, 7, 12 and multiples thereof (30, 40, 70, 120, 400, etc) run deep in scripture.

Many recognize some of the patterns, but it is very difficult to find a consistent, convincing explanation as to why.

To me, its starts with understanding that God is an absolute being with unified dual characteristics. Eg. God has both masculine and feminine aspects of character (gen1:27), and so fully expressed, God's nature manifests as man + a women (and in all other levels of life: male / female, as a general rule.)

Another more fundamental dual characteristic of God's nature is inner and outer. Eg invisible directive element + visible responsive element. This manifests in humans as our mind (spirit) and body (flesh). Animals have instinct + body, plants have their unique plant nature + body, minerals, etc, have laws of physics, + energetic form (molecules, atoms, particles, etc).

One aspect is invisible, the other aspect is visible and observable.

So God is the embodiment of the number three: unified being manifesting as invisible + visible elements, or unified being manifesting as male + female. (This is the basis for the trinity, too)

But go one step further. When our spirit (inner) and flesh (outer) unite in action, growth, etc, we exist as a human being. The human being is the union of spirit and flesh.

So, the actual 'structure' of every human being (and all other beings etc, in the universe) is the number FOUR. God (1) manifesting as spirit (2) + flesh (3) which united together again = human being (4).

Another example: God (1) manifesting as inherent directive nature (which reflects laws of nature) (2) + particles (3) which united together again = an atom (4).

One more example: God (1) manifesting as via a man (2) + woman (3) which united together form = a family (4).

So whether its an individual, or a molecule, or a dog, or a family, when you include God's nature as the origin being manifested in these complementary aspects (male/female, spirit/flesh, inner/outer, natural law/energy), each of these is the embodiment of the number FOUR. The basis for all forms of existence in the creation is the number four. The number four is also the basis for God's omnipresence in the creation.

This leads us to grasp why the number 4, 40, 400 are so important in scripture.

When Lucifer spiritually murdered Adam and Eve, he claimed (enslaved) the first human family. Instead of A + E united with God to form a Family (embodiment of 4), A & E united with Satan to form a (satanic) family. Satan stole the most precious number four.

So from the start, we see God attempting to restore a family. First, Adam's family. After Cain killed Abel, God set up a 40x period (1600 biblical years = 4 x 10 (generations) x 40), then Noah's family. Noah's ark surviving the 40 day flood meant 4 (family) x 10 (the number of return) = 40 as the numerical period required for conditionally separating Noah's family from their satanic origin (Adam's family, which failed to separate from Satan when Cain killed Abel) .

When Noah's family failed due to Ham's faithlessness, a x10 numerical period was required to reverse this (go back to origin). Thus, biblically, it was "400" years from Noah to Abraham (10 generations). 40 day flood separation period (lost) x 10 generations (number of return to origin) = 400 years, required to separate the foundation of Noah's family from Satan so God could work with and claim a new 'noah', aka Abraham.

Notice what happened with Abraham failed his first offering (the heifer, goat/sheep, pigeon/dove)? God had no choice but to separate Abraham's offspring from the satanic invasion (symbolized birds of prey stealing the doves/pigeons in the offering (Abraham's dream) by applying another 400 year period. This is the reason the Israelites suffered under the Egyptians for 400 years.

(God had instructed Abraham to cut ALL the offerings in two, symbolizing the separation of Cain and Abel, and then lay one half (representing Abel) over the other half (representing Cain), as the symbolic condition to reverse Cain killing Able, and Lucifer killing Adam. But Abraham failed to complete the cutting, so the offering was not 'divided' aka separated from Satan.)

So 4, 40, or 400 in God's providence in scripture represents the numerical period required to separate Satan, so that God could work.

Other examples: Moses 40-day fast, 40 years in the Egyptian palace, Israelite wandering in the wilderness for 40 years, 400 years from the final prophet (Malachi) of the final reform of the Israelite people until the birth of Jesus, Jesus 40-day fast after John the Baptist failed to follow and unite with Jesus, etc, 40 day period of the resurrection after the crucifixion (to set the new foundation after the Jews failed to accept Jesus, to lay the new foundation for Christianity) etc.

Why does scripture record these numerical periods and patterns. It was to lay the foundation for Jesus to recognize God's work, and then do that. John 5:19 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing."

That's why the number 4 and magnitudes of 4 (10x, 100x) etc) are prevasive in the course of God's people. Because all things in God's universe are the embodiment of the numerical basis of FOUR. God + Subject + Object + Union of (SO). And the family is God's basis for the Kingdom of God, so the providence has often included periods where chosen individuals, or families, or a people or nation has undergone a biblical 40X period for the separation from Satan. The ultimate goal is to establish families that are free from Satan.

There are other key numbers and numerical periods: 3, 10, 30, 21 (Jacob's 21 year exile in Haran, Israels 210 years of exile in Babylon, etc), 70 (72), 12, etc. The above is just one example. But the basis for all these numerical aspects in the scripture are found in God's design and structure of his creation, and the need to recover those numbers from Satanic control (separate from Satan and return them to God). I could go into those, where those number originate in my view, but it would take a lot more typing and you may not even be interested!

There are many cosmological explanations of numbers, numerical systems, numerology, in many different cultures and faiths, many or most of which reflect some aspect of Creation, but the numerological patterns in the scripture are key (IMO) because they deal with the core salvation providence (i.e providence to restore humanity back to God, centering on God's family).
