Haruki is a very interesting author. He was able to break into Japanese literary scene because all his books have racy scenes. Prostitutes, infidelity etc in almost every novel he writes.
However, I think he uses these as a cover to push deeper narratives unimpaired. His book 'A wild sheep chase" is one of the most incredible books I have ever read. Written in 80s, it touches on a lot of redpill topics, including the idea of a Cabal that is created by people who are possessed by an extra terrestrial being, and the only way to defeat it is to be a person who has no attachment to money and ambition and be willing to sacrifice yourself to take out the entire structure. Again, I can't vouch for the translated version, but the original gave me goosebumps.
His book 1Q84 is very interesting. It plays on the pronunciation of 1984 in Japanese, where "9" is pronounced as "Kew" - tying both 1984 and Q together.
For those learning Japanese, I highly recommend reading his books since the writing style is extremely simple but the subject matter is very deep.
My wife loves that book. I will have to have her read it with Q in mind.
I've read both of these novels years ago and I could do with re-reading them now.
(In English. I can't read Japanese)
