I feel much the same. In general I think we are a pretty forgiving crowd, but much like Trump, our nerves are pretty shot from bad faith actors taking advantage of the 'benefit of the doubt' as you say.
Trump is a bit of a soft touch as we know, but he too is running low on second chances he's willing to give out. And disloyalty is the ultimate sin in his book, so Flynn is probably one of the many who've been excommunicated with prejudice.
Thing is, giving someone several chances isn't the same as trusting someone so I wouldn't so much describe him as a 'soft touch' as I would say that he seems to be an actual good person(That soul was Patton, soft is not the right word, at all...)

I'm agreeable as to the terminology used. And you're right, at this point nothing Trump-related should be described as 'soft'
