Name calling are we? At what age should parents let their children on the internet? So you are the type of parent that won't "patrol" what their children access on line? So you acknowledge that parents are "the authority in their home" yet they shouldn't patrol their children's internet usage?
That's up to the parents to decide for their own families, not the nanny state's. Parents absolutely should parent.
The context of this post is from Australia. I would suspect that most of us commenting on this post are not from Australia. And the question of this Australian law was whether it would apply to a site like Pornhub? For after all it applies to YouTube. What is the purpose of the law? Reportedly it's to protect children from harm on the internet. That being the case does it make sense to apply the law to YouTube but not a site like Pornhub? Now look - it might be a bad law from the censorship standpoint but that is not what is being asked by Senator Canavan. His question is a reasonable & valid one and should be answered.
But here in the US I believe this statement applies: The Supreme Court has ruled that, “transmitting obscenity and child pornography, whether via the Internet or other means, is... illegal under federal law for both adults and juveniles.” -Reno v. ACLU, 521 U.S. 844 (1998).....keep reading more on this subject at: https://www.justice.gov/criminal/criminal-ceos/obscenity.
"Parents to decide for their own families"? Seems like the Supreme Court has already decided! As a parent & grandparent I want the law enforced.
Australia Boom! Nice addition Anon!
Thanks - but I missed something very important so I've revised my original post. I don't believe most of us commenting are from Australia - we are in the US.
