Because robotic probes are already dead upon construction. And are not expected to live once there. They will function for a while. And not return.

We can go to the Moon...if we pay for the ticket. The estimated cost of the Apollo program in 2020 dollars is $ 257 billion. Few people want to go. At this point, Musk has a lead in the horse race.
