There's a lot of folks in the comments advocating for homeschooling in these scenarios and I agree. I'll also throw out private school which is the route I took when my son was young. Had to take on a part time job to afford it, but was one of the best decisions I ever made.
However, when a state operates in a manner that is this tyrannical, taking your kid out of the public school system doesn't really solve the problem. I'm becoming increasingly confident that the only way to fix states like Vermont and California who view your children as their property is to remove yourself from the tax base.
I'd like to see couples who plan on becoming parents to be more cognizant of the state in which they want to raise their children. Shrinking the tax base for tyranny states and expanding it for freedom states will resolve this issue in the long run.
I know this isn't an option for all. And people should still uses their voices to fight against this kind of insanity. But the reality is that states like California and Vermont are no longer states in which children should be raised, imho.
