Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

I've been digging into history circa 1850-1930 recently...
I only knew what we were taught in school... before they switched it from history to "social studies". What a joke... Anyway, I'm playing ketchup :)
Anyway... Pardon me if it's common knowledge, but I had no idea there was a world war of sorts before WW1.
The Boxer Rebellion circa 1900 in Beijing China... Essentially, it took an absolute shitload of soldiers from 8 nations, to bring down Kungfu priests of the Qing dynasty - who essentially willed themselves into becoming immune from bullets and knives... First few minutes of this vid gets into it.
Further along in that video, I thought it was rather interesting that the Qing dynasty flag was yellow and their signature haircut was called a "queue"... Queue - yeah a bit thin, but I noticed...
8 Nations including Germany, Japan, Russia, Britain, France, the United States, Italy, and Austria-Hungary all were dispatched to fight there, with no formal treaty or declaration of war. The photos in the wiki link are interesting...note the time period and architecture in the background...
The "Boxers" were pretty badass.. just look at these mofos
Typically, I'd have little interest in Chinese history, but there are connections to other things in my dig during the same time period. A pretty big rabbit hole...
Anyway, the YT channel that made the video has a lot if interesting content - all requiring a grain of salt, but historical subjects you might not even know about... like tunnels practically everywhere, the original cabbage patch kids, cloning (and the very first moving picture/video) and a number of other topics that if for nothing else stir the imagination...
Would definitely buy their album.
Are these two associated? Even as a child, cabbage patch always struck me as some sort of weird “child/clone farming” story.
Recently found out that one of the key figures on the American side was a Prussian general named von Steuben. There were Prussian mercenaries on the British side as well. Von Steuben wrote the drill guide that we used until 1812. Given Prussia’s likelihood of being a hub or arm of cabal operations over the last several hundred years, this seems worth looking into more deeply.
They seem to be...
