Was that a coup? I’m pretty sure Charles II was less than stellar, but just assumed Charles I was too, due to his relatively foppish dress compared to prior kings.
Edit: Looks like it, yes, but a good coup or a bad coup?
I’ve been thinking for some months now that the period of King James to William of Orange was much more influential on American history than we would generally be aware of.
Some things happened, whatever they were, the Stuarts were deposed, and the Prussians were not as kind to Americans as whoever the Stuarts were (Scotsmen?) - basically treating us as a debt collection piggybank while simultaneously trying to establish the firm levels of control you find in Europe, with William of Orange coming in and folding England into Britain and placing it under the control of German kings (House of Hanover) as a branch of the Holy Roman Empire.
As the Stuarts were Scottish… it might mean there’s a whole other angle to the Trump family we don’t yet know about…
It was King Charles I himself who was executed. He was tried, convicted of high treason, and beheaded on January 30, 1649 in front of the Banqueting House in Whitehall, London.
What’s going on in the picture? Who’s portrait is in the background? I’m noticing the gold tie a lot.
u/Phillip4Trump It's Queen Henrietta Maria, the wife of British King Charles I who was executed by parliament.
Trump is at the UK Ambassador’s Residence in Paris.

Edit, it looks like he might be related to Edward III, but apparently almost every other President is related to English royalty as well. https://familypedia.fandom.com/wiki/Genealogical_relationships_of_Presidents_of_the_United_States

The picture is from Time magazine. So fulfills Time and picture in post.
at first I thought it might be one of the First Ladies ... but I don't see a match any known First Lady portraits.
