Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

That's what I told my husband. I told him we must 'practice' up a bit before we go to limber our joints. The inflammation is killing us. 20 years ago this would not have been hard to do, but we all age. I had my doctors appointment Thursday and she said I was good to go for 6 months. I lost 22 lbs which made her happy as well as myself. My blood pressure is normal most of the time. So I thought, "what the heck, I'll see if I can con my husband into us trying out the dances they have at the Senior Center." He thinks it's a good idea as he too has lost quite a bit of weight. Not that we are grossly obese, but when your middle is suffering from 'dunlop' problems, it's time to do something, KEK!
A simple thing fren, can be done every day for free. Go barefoot on the earth for 2 min. Amazing for inflammation and pain. If you enjoy, do it more often!
I used to go barefoot outside up to the age of 30's. Then I don't know why I quit. If it wasn't cold outside, I'd go do it now. Thank you. I will keep it in mind.
I continue until there is snow! If you can afford it, a grounding mat can achieve the same benefit.
Now I can't wait until warm weather.
Some foods can cause inflammation. There’s many herbs that will help. People swear by turmeric, it doesn’t do anything for me. I find more relief from moringa and green tea. Ginger is really good, I love ginger lemon tea.
Thanks. I'm willing to try anything at this point.
That's great - congratulations
I dropped about 30# myself just cutting out sweet coffees...
The downside is that now, all my well worn in clothes that "have my stink on them" don't fit anymore & I've had to add 3 more holes to tighten my belt...
I'm praying nobody dies or gets married anytime soon... It's like a 7 year old wearing Dad's suit! LoL 😂
Good jeans that fit are hard to find... but you know that already 😉
I’m dying laughing at this. My husband lost about fifty pounds and after my constant nagging he found wrangler’s at Roses for 15. I’m about 40 pounds down the jeans I bought in September and falling down after a couple hours wear. Going to get a belt, hate em but I’m not buying new jeans and be too big by spring. Clothes just aren’t made like they were twenty years ago. I want real denim with out stretching. Guess when I’m at my goal weight I’ll buy vintage jeans. I’m feel but still prefer vintage men’s Levi’s over most jeans. I have had a dress in the closet for three years in case of funeral or death. It will be donated because it’s too big. Guess I gotta get something else now.
Men have specific requirements that women don't... not just in the "special area", but the thighs and in some cases, calves.
The other not obvious thing is the zipper quality and the number of belt loops. Levi's seems to mostly have 5, whereas LL Bean has 7. That makes a big difference in how they stay up and gather. Especially for men of a certain age that are starting to lose their ass and suspenders are on the horizon.
Quality has definitely dropped on most, but so far the LL Bean ones have proven to be durable. I bought about 8 pairs 15+ years ago and wear them EVERY day... only in the past year have the knees started getting so thin I've busted thru bending down... and patches are annoying so... it's getting time. Good thing they're only like $85/pr now 🙄
I bought my first pair of stretchy jeans this year...you gals are onto something!
The more you know rainbow an sheit 😁
Ha Ha, suspenders😆 My grandmother told my very eccentric uncle to get suspenders because she was tired of seeing his but crack. Now if I see red suspenders I get a vision of him. He was very tight and refused to buy new clothes after he lost some weight so guess the suspenders were the cheapest option. My husband has informed me about belt loops, especially the jeans that have them wrong. I’ve rarely worn a belt other than in my youth only for fashion, not purpose. I truly hate stretch jeans for myself. After a few hours they are falling off and pulling undies down. I’ll admit they have their advantages especially if you are eating holiday meals. My husband figured out the positives of stretch. I’m old school and 100% female, I like to see a nice but in jeans on a man. I’ll tell him very quickly those jeans are too big, can’t see you but. Don’t get me started on no front pockets. I’ve got a few pair with fake pockets in the front, didn’t notice at purchase. Why the hell would you not have pockets on jeans🤨 $85 is good for quality denim. I’ve seen some women’s over 100. I’m guessing it’s the real cotton denim and not synthetics.
I know what you mean. I worked from 4 PM to 4 AM 6 days a week for 10 years. I don't know how I did it. There wasn't much time to eat a full meal except for Sundays. But I stayed a healthy 125 lbs. for all that time. In 2009 I lost my job along with most factories here in America due to the Hedge Funds and Banking Systems failures when Obama came into office. So I stayed home and went to college. While at home, my husband who is half Italian and German started cooking for me. Well let me tell you... Pasta is good but extremely fattening and for a woman who hasn't eaten much in 10 years, you'd better believe I ate it. Then once I started cooking again, I continued the same food courses. Before long, I had ballooned to an amount that I know was/is unhealthy. I never hit 200 lbs. Praise the Lord, but if I kept on eating in this manner, it wouldn't have been long.
Then my Doctor withheld my bloodwork from December 2023 until June 2024 stating that I was borderline diabetic. THAT'S WHAT WOKE ME UP. My husband needed to lose some weight too, so we joined this fight together. We cut out a lot of the breads, pastas and pastries. We cut out the high-processed foods like potato chips, salami, bologna, summer sausages, etc. We eat a meat/protein with lots of veggies on our plates at dinner. Throughout the day, I basically eat a couple of boiled eggs for breakfast or an oatmeal. This usually holds me over until dinner. If not, I munch on about 6 whole wheat flavored crackers. This has helped me keep a calorie deficit to lose weight. So far it is working.
Good luck on finding you some new clothes. I can hardly wait to replace mine.
